Cantilever
The Cantilever staircase is a true floating staircase design which is free of any visible structure, giving the illusion the treads are levitating.
This seamless ‘floating’ appearance creates a stunning effect which is aesthetically pleasing and enhances the natural flow of light with dramatic shadows. A distinctive feature in any room. This simplistic design of overhanging treads can give the illusion of more space within a room, allowing the designer to create some very striking design concepts.
The Cantilever staircase is particularly well complemented by a minimalist clear glass balustrade, fixed to the side of each tread further enhancing the invisibility of any structure or support to the treads. It is advised that structural glass is used, laminated and toughened glass a minimum of 8+8mm. For those that do not wish to see button glass fixings you can upgrade to concealed glass fixings, giving illusion that glass has passed through the tread itself.
Cantilever stairs can also be fabricated with your choice of steel spindles alternatives.
Glass is laminated according to BS6180:2011 providing the option to incorporate frameless glass, making the balustrade appear more invisible. For practicality, having a handrail will mean less finger prints on the glass, our stylish handrails can also give a contemporary look.
The Cantilever stair is constructed of a metal frame that is bolted to the bare wall and the treads are fitted over the frame. It is very important that the supporting wall is suitable for the weight of people running up the stairs. A structurally sound wall of solid concrete or made from 7Kn block at a minimum thickness of 100mm is required.
If your property has a different construction for the supporting wall, such as stud or masonry, following a consultation with our engineers, it may still be possible to achieve a Cantilever staircase, please contact us for more information.
Once the frame has been installed, the wall can then be finished with plaster board or wall cladding to a minimum of 50mm build up, to conceal the fixings and strings. The treads and balustrade are fitted during a second installation. It is advised this is done once other trades have completed the works needed to finish the wall.

Materials & Finishes
Treads are made from a variety of hardwoods: Ash, Birch, Oak, Mahogany, Teak or Walnut. Natural woods are chosen for their strength and durability, and can be stained or painted to any colour of your choice. We offer an extensive selection of stains and painted finishes which provide a durable finish, whilst still retaining the unique, natural properties of the wood. We can also offer other material variations such as a glass or concrete cantilever stairs.
Sizes
Our standard door leaf sizes range between: 1981mm - 2500mm height, 626mm -1026mm width. Made to Measure door leaf sizes are up to: 2900mm height, 1300mm width. Please ask for more details: info@zakuna.co.uk
Fire Door Options
Zakuna doors can be manufactured with FD30 or FD60 cores. As well as smoke seals, thresholds and intumescent strips installed within the door where necessary. If you require a self-closer for FD30S and FD60S, our hidden hinges can be upgraded to have a hidden self-closing mechanism within the frame and door, with no visible difference to our standard hidden hinges.
Door leaf thickness for Fire Rated Doors are 45mm for FD30, 52mm for FD60.
Installation
Our Pre-hung Interior Door Sets are easy to install, reducing labour, time and cost on site, in comparison to tradition methods. Door leaves, frames, linings and architraves are unassembled and supplied loose for on-site assembly. Installation instructions, fittings and fixings are provided. Our recommended consumables can be supplied as an option. We also offer a full installation service.
From Design to Installation

This includes consultation to determine the design and specification to suit your requirements and budget. Our aim is to make the entire process as simple and practical as possible, offering a site survey and solutions to the challenges presented by complex design issues, building regulations and installation systems.
