New Build House in Surrey

At Zakuna we are proud of our extensive product range and we like to be challenged to make any bespoke design. The team at Concept Eight Architects in Weybridge did just that with this project in Surrey.

Cantilever / Challenger Staircase

The client wanted a floating effect staircase, with a configuration that could not be accommodated due to the structural requirements. The solution was to incorporate not one, but two staircase designs into one staircase.

The Cantilevered element of the staircase started at the ground floor. The treads were 100mm thickness Nero, Oak with LED’s cut into each tread, these stood out spectacularly against the green tropical leaf wallpaper. Combining the Cantilever Stair with the open rise style of the Challenger staircase continued the floating effect with matching black treads for a seamless transition. The Zig-Zag design of the black steel strings from the sides, looks striking. Two 90 degree quarter landings were incorporated, one suspended from the first floor, and the other fixed to the wall, suspended above the floating stairs.

For a clean look and not to detract from the decor, frameless glass was fixed to the side of the staircase on the inner side. The design was completed by introducing floor to ceiling spindles in both Black and Brass. This design intent was transferred to our internal doors and allowed views into the back garden and over the River Thames as you enter through the front door.

The overall effect is simple stunning.

Interior Door Sets

Our pre-hung door sets were chosen for this design. On the ground floor, the doors, frames and architraves were all 2.5m tall in Nero Ash with a brass inlay, finished with a black handle.

To reduce costs on the first floor, the doors were reduced in height to 2.2m tall and the brass inlay was removed. The doors, frames and architraves were kept in Nero Ash to match the ground floor doors and stairs.

Concealed hinges, door seals, locks and latches were colour matched in black to complete the styling.
